The Internet is “open” and that is its greatest charm and value. However, in the knowledge-based economy today, ideas have monetary value. While “sharing” is the buzzword, protection of information is equally important. Reflect on these trends and write an essay addressing the following:
· How would you reconcile International Property Rights (IPR) with the value of openness?
· What are society’s attitudes to the concept of “ownership” and commercial use of creative ideas?
· How would you make a case for or against monetary gain from ideas?
