BUSI641 – eCommerce – Assignment #1
This individual assignment gets the student to plan and create about an operational plan from an e-
commerce perspective. Further, based on the student’s choice of business, build a website using one of
many ecommerce capable online software.
Premise:
The student will think about a business that they would like to start that only transacts through an e-
commerce system. The business can be anything that interests the student.
Based on the business, the student will plan and create an operations plan of how the ecommerce only
business will run.
This assignment has two parts.
Part 1 – Operations Plan for the business. (50 marks)
In Part 1, this is a written document that demonstrates the operations plan of the business.
• Explain the business that you would like to create that is ecommerce only. (5 marks)
• Explain what will be sold through the ecommerce system. (5 marks)
• Research what is an operations plan and explain what the key components of an operations
plan. (15 marks)
• Create a day-to-day or repetitive operation plan for your ecommerce business. (25 marks)
• Flow charts are useful to present the elements of the operations plan.
• No limit on the number of pages for the operations plan.

Part 2 – Build the business on the web using any ecommerce website creator EXCEPT SHOPIFY (50
marks)
In Part 2, use the website builder like wix.com (https://www.wix.com/) and create your website. You
can use ANY website create with ecommerce except SHOPIFY.
Requirements of the business website.
1. The website must not go live.
2. Put 3 products or service you put up for sale on your website must be reflective of the business
idea. (Warning: as this is still a school course, do not pick ideas that could be deemed
offensive. If you are not sure, please check with the instructor. For the purpose of this exercise,
keep it simple.)
3. Make the website that want you think you would want the customer to see. Include return
policy, FAQ, social media links and anything else you would expect from an ecommerce site.
4. You must be able to “buy” the item. What payments would you offer?
5. Creativity is the key.
After the website is built, switch the website over to demonstration/user view, and create a
presentation video that shows the following:
1. The homepage (5 marks)
2. Product Catalog (5 marks)
3. Links to Social Media Link (5 marks)
4. Walk through of how the customer would come to the site, search for your product, FAQ about
your products, pick your product, and buy your product, return policy, contact information. (30
marks)
5. Creativity (5 marks)
6. What did you like and dislike about the website building tool? (5 marks)
The video should not be longer than 10 minutes. You are not required to be in the video. Only submit
the link to the video to the instructor via email.
