This could be a simple file deletion or something as big as a server crash with the companies main database. Incident response should include disaster recovery and a backup, restoral process.

Background

There are many backup and recovery software options in the marketplace and an enterprise might encompass more than one method or use more than one software suite. The recovery point objective (RPO) and the recovery time objective (RTO) are two specific parameters closely associated with recovery. The RTO is how long you can continue business without a specific application or dataset. This is often associated with your maximum allowable or maximum tolerable outage. Other factors include what type of data is being backed up and on what mechanism that data is stored. File system backup and block storage backups can differ in approaches and software. Virtual Machines and applications may be backed up in a different manner than the data they use or produce.

You are an engineer at ABZ Corporation and you need to find solutions for a backup and recovery strategy for your disaster recovery plan. This will include some evaluation of common industry leading software.

Other things to consider is backup destinations. Are you going to another site via a site-to-site Virtual Private Network (VPN) or are you using a public cloud provider storage capability like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Microsoft Azure?
