Purpose Statement for Formulating Research Questions

For this Discussion, you will create a draft Purpose Statement in one concise paragraph due on Day 2 See the examples provided and emulate to design your own.

You are being asked to provide and discuss how you created your Purpose Statement, rather than simply being dispatched to create a draft. This is intended to help you create an awareness and understanding of your own thoughts and learning processes. This concept, known as metacognition, is the thinking about thinking. Metacognition is crucial to your success as a student and as a researcher. A Purpose Statement will be the deliverable for each Discussion 1 in Weeks 2, 3, 4 and 5. From your Purpose Statement, your Instructor will be able evaluate your ability to conceptualize individual tasks to execute to achieve your research goals. This type of assessment is not often done and is invaluable in guiding your ability to evolve your research skills and strategies.

To prepare for this Discussion, be sure to read the instructions for Week 2 Discussion 2, in which you will be asked to post the most recent version of your research question(s) section of the Dissertation Prospectus template. You may find other information related to an "Approach Statement" that is the basic information for a Purpose Statement.

With these thoughts in mind:

Prepare your Purpose Statement in the form of a single paragraph, due on Day 2 of this week for Week 3 Discussion 2. The Purpose Statement must be developed well as your Research Question(s) need to align to the Purpose Statement.

Align your purpose statement to emulate what you see below in one concise paragraph. Add in your purpose statement to your revised problem statement providing both in one attachment in Week 3 Discussion forum.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this quantitative correlation research study is to determine to what extent, if any, is there a correlation between the training methods used in large retail organizations and the impact on the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics. Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics will be analyzed using a Likert-type scale analyzing 1,500 employee metrics generated from existing reports collected before and after training.  These metrics are used to determine the productivity of employees, including how the employees are reviewed for pay increases and promoted up within the organization. The independent variables are sales, units per transactions (UPT), and opening credit card applications. The dependent variable is training models utilizing andragogy theory.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this qualitative interview study is to gain a robust shared understanding of what strategies African-American entrepreneurs adopt to increase their emotional intelligence and remain in business beyond an initial five years in Houston, TX.  By gaining an in-depth understanding of the experiences of current minority entrepreneurs, the failure gap for others in the future may be reduced. An in-depth understanding aids more new minority entrepreneurs to experience success.  I will purposely sample 25 minority entrepreneurs in Houston, TX with open-ended questions in semi-structured interviews to gain a shared understanding of their levels of emotional intelligence and how emotional intelligence has impacted their success.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenology was to identify and report the lived experiences of managers relevant to CSR implementation in manufacturing corporations in Charlotte, North Carolina. Data was collected from 15 semi structured interviews, or until data saturation was achieved. Data was collected using the snowball sampling technique (Patton, 2015). The phenomena studied with this research was how CSR is implemented within corporations by managers. Corporate leaders strive to implement CSR despite the disparity between its concept and real-life practice and debate among scholars about its profitability (Glavas, 2016). Identifying and reporting the lived experiences of corporate leaders and staff may illuminate understanding of the implementation of CSR that may result in positive social changes by mitigating the negative consequences of production and improving societal well-being.

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of this qualitative exploratory multiple case study was to gain an understanding of the organizational factors that encourage unethical practices by organizations leaders in Nigeria despite having ethical leadership skills and knowledge.  The unit of analysis was nine purposefully sampled leaders from each of two organizations in the telecommunications sector, that participated in semi structured interview sessions.  The telecommunications sector is a viable segment of the Nigerian economy (Khan, 2014b); it is a major contributor to Nigeria's GDP that has been alleged within works of literature to have amplified unethical practices since the advent of Global System of Mobile Telecommunication (GSM) in 2001.  Recent scandals within the sector have demonstrated the devastating consequences of unethical leadership in Nigeria organizations (Marshall, Cardon, Poddar, & Fontenot, 2013; O'Reilly, & Parker, 2013; Robinson, 2014).
