CITC04H3 Current Municipal and Planning Policy and Practice in Toronto Assignment III

Chronicling a Current Topic on Municipal and/or Planning Policy and Practice

Introduction: As a student of City Studies, as well as a member of society, it is your responsibility to keep yourself up to date on developments that will impact the communities where you and your families live, work and go to school.

It is also important to see the current state of municipal and planning policy and practice as an ever evolving product of past and current events, people, and ideas. Gathering reliable information about the world around us and understanding how changes will affect our world is vital to becoming an engaged and informed citizen.

For example, with the election of the Progressive Conservatives in 2018, many changes have been made or are being considered that have directly affected or will affect municipal and planning policy and practice locally and across Ontario. Bill 5, Better Local Government Act, 2018; Bill 66, Restoring Ontario's Competitiveness Act, 2018; and Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice, 2019 will significantly impact your communities and it is important for you to understand how.

There are many other examples of current topics related to municipal and planning policy and practice in Toronto and, more broadly, Ontario. It will be up to you to choose a topic but it must be related to the Zoning topic we covered in lecture.
