Health Risks, Manufacturing, and the Production of Energy 3

Health Risks, Manufacturing, and the Production of Energy

University

In continuation to my previous presentation, I discussed population and the effects of hazardous waste and chemicals. I want to continue my dissuasion, but now I want to take a more direct and in-depth approach about the health risks and the effects that manufacturing and production of energy can have on our health and wellbeing. As I stated in my previous presentation, health hazards are defined as chemicals that can cause acute or chronic health effects. How many of us know what it means to manufacture? Well the basic meaning of manufacturing is the production of merchandise for use or sale using such methods as labor, machines, tool, and chemicals. Some many things that we use are due to the manufacturing process including the clothing that we wear to the food that we eat. Let’s take a minute to reflect on the meaning of energy production. Energy production is defined as the extract of energy products in a usable form from natural sources. Energy sources includes cool mines and hydro planets. In my opinion, every American should be aware of the products that are manufactured as well as the materials that it is made of. We should also be aware of the different types of energy production and what they are used for. In my paper, I will discuss energy production and the health risk associated with the production of energy. I will also evaluate global issues and climate changes. I will develop a plan that is sure to mitigate the effects of climate change. I will review government regulations and ho the government should protect the American people against hazardous waste.

As I stated in my first paragraph, energy production is taking products and using them to provide energy sources. There are several energy production souces which includes:

· Cool

· Natural gas

· Oil

· Biogas

· Geothermal

· Hot dry Rock

· Diesel

· And other methods

In this paragraph I will discuss the pros and cons of two specific method of energy production. I will recommend an action that can be effective in reducing the risk levels to the population. The first method coal. Coal is used to generate electricity for residential and businesses. “

Coal is the second most used energy source to generate electricity after natural gas, which consists of 33.8% of U.S. electricity generation.” (United States Envionmental Protection Agency, n.d.). Some of the advantages to using coal as an energy method are:

· Low cost

· It is plentiful and will not run out

The disadvantages of using coal as an energy method are:

· Not sustainable

· Requires an excessive amount of water

· Produces greenhouse effects

· The amount of smoke that is expelled is excessive, which can be harmful to people

· Contains radioactive substances

The next method that I will be discussing is oil. Oil is used for fuel in cars, buses and other machinery. Crude oil is used for products such as paints. plastics, and fertilizers. Some of the advantages of using oil are:

· Cost effective

· Produces list carbon monoxide than other energy sources

The disadvantages of using oil are:

· Creates greenhouse effect

· Oil is limited resource

· Oil spills

Here are my recommendations for improving and reducing the impacts of coal:

· If though it resources are not limited only use what is needed.

· Try to figure out a way to sustain smoke from coal burning; possible by using a clear doom where the smoke can be contained.

Here is my recommendation for for improving and reducing the impacts of oil

· Create programs for the community to engage in oil free transportation

· Try to use another product to make plastic and the other product listed above

The plan I have developed may not eliminate the risk, but it sure can possible give guidance for future endeavors.

Next, I will discuss the major global issues related to climate change. Climate change can abe both natural and human made “In the U.S., public health can be affected by disruptions of physical, biological, and ecological systems, including disturbances originating here and elsewhere.” (CDC, n.d.). In all cases whether man made or natural, it effects are health in a major way. Here are some of the ways that climate change can affect our health:

· Severe weather causes injuries and death

· Air pollution- can causes major health issues such as Asthma and other Respiratory problems.

· Heat- heat can cause issues such as overheating, heat stroke and other illness. Some of the illness and diseases can cause death

· Water and food contamination- this can cause malnutrition and in some cases death.

Government play a major role in climate change. Instead enforcing policies and procedures to mitigate climate change, they continue to ignore it. The US is the richest Country in world, but they put finances towards the protection and health of the people. In my opinion. I am proposing the government follow this model:

· Place the appropriate funds towards the preservation of natural resources

· Place emphasis on non-human climate changes -this seems to be the most destruction form of climate change.

· Making health insurance free and universal for all- it has been a lot of talk about health and coverage, but no action. If people get sick, they should be able to walk in a hospital and get treated without the worries of being billed. I mean honestly, as I stated above, America is the richest Country in the world, so why can health be free for Americans.

The above model can not only prevent illness and disease, but can create a more health environment for all.

When products are being made, business and companies are not fuly aware of the likely that the end products can cause health issues. Let’s take a moment to look into this. As stated above in my paragraph, oil is used for care, buses, and other machinery. The usage of oil has caused many issues not only to people, but to the environment. Oil can cause the following issues:

· Contamination to the dirt and ground, which can eventually leak into the piping system and cause water to become contaminated.

· If used is not deposed of properly, it can cause the streets and other areas to become slick, which can cause accidents.

Now le’s talk about the waste products of cool:

Cool end products cause a significant amount of CO2 in the environment.

· This cause respiratory and cardiovascular issue

· Cool also causes green house, which can cause climate changes

· Once the climate changes, there are health issues associated with these changes.

In my opinion, my model can alleviate or eliminated health issues:

· Make people aware of the initiatives that the government has in order to protect them

· Along with awareness, then provide them the proper education for prevention.

· Hold companies accountable for oil spills

· Set regulations for monitoring CO2 levels

I am not really sure if the Government looked at any points, but I’m sure this can help a lot.

Lastly, let’s take a look at 3 Governmental regulations that were created to protect the population. The Government has implied several regulations for the protection of the population and some of them can be found on the EPA’s website,

1. Proper disposing of oil- Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 279 which is gives the proper protocol for disposing of used oil.

2. Drinking water – the drinking water act was created in 1974; provides standards for drinking water

3. Mold-The EPA also provided regulations for mold remediation in schools and commercials buildings. They also provided education and guidance how to identify and remediate mold.

The Government has set several regulations, but it also up to them to enforce them as well. What’s the use of having a rule, if it won’t be followed.

In conclusion, we have to do our part when it comes the environment. If the environment is in poor shape than our health will be poor. Education is the key, educating people is best. The more we know the more we can prevent.
