Clinical Inquiry

1

Clinical Issue

Clinical issue: patient outcomes after surgical procedure (arthroplasty)

The procedure used for the restoration of the deformed arms.

Based on the personal experience of arthroplasty, the patients appears to be satisfied after the procedure

They give positive feedback.

It is important not to judge about the effectiveness of the procedure based on patients’ satisfaction and positive feedback

There is a concern whether their arms can function well after surgical procedure.

It is also a concern whether the satisfaction is due to less deformation of their hands after the procedure (Bloch et al., 2018).

2

PICOT Question

PICOT Question: For the patients undergoing surgical procedure, what is the effectiveness of the arthroplasty procedure on better patients’ outcomes (satisfaction and positive feedback) compared to no surgery within 2 months of treatment?

Population: patients undergoing surgical procedure

Intervention: arthroplasty procedure

Compared: nor surgery

Outcome: patient satisfaction and the positive feedback

Time: two months of implementation (Bloch et al., 2018).

Levels of the Evidence

Cox (2022)-Level IV (evidence from literature reviews).

Filbay et al. (2018)- Level II (evidence from the quasi-experimental study)

Jansonn et al. (2020)-Level III (Non-experimental study)

Kohring et al. (2018): Level III (systematic review of a combination of random controlled trials) (Dang & Dearholt, 2018)

The strengths of using systemic review for clinical research

It has the characteristic of narrow focusing of the question

There is comprehensive search for the evidence

The criteria adopted is based on the selection of the relevant evidence

There is rigorous assessment of the validity

It is based on the objective or the quantitative summary

There is evidence-based inferences
