Assessment Type Written Assignment Purpose Provide an analytic overview of pedagogical theories with a professional reflection Description Provide an analytic overview of 3 pedagogical theories with a brief professional reflection on each theory. You should use a format provided in the assessment folder. A choice of two formats for the assignment is provided below – choose which one suits your style of writing. The theories should be drawn be from Weeks 2-7 of the course. You should focus on identifying the key ideas from each theory and provide a critical appraisal of benefits/opportunities and limitations that the theory has for improving teaching. A brief professional reflection on the implications of the theory for pedagogical leadership and change is required.

Length 2000 words

Assessment Criteria 1: Appropriate selection of pedagogical theory and identification/explanation of key ideas from theory. 2. Depth of analysis of benefits and limitations of theory to pedagogical practice. 3. Relevance and depth of professional reflection connected to pedagogical theory. 4. Quality of written communication and academic literacy.

WEEK 3 - PEDAGOGICAL THEORY 1 - CONTEXT MATTERS

This week we look at why context matters when thinking about schooling and pedagogical practice. The required reading by Haberman is a seminal piece of literature on the complications of pedagogy and socioeconomic status. Perry offers a contemporary Australian perspective on the same topic.

this week we look at research on teacher's knowledge. The seminal work of Lee Shulman is a focus for this week.

WEEK 7 - VISIBLE LEARNING AND HIGH IMPACT STRATEGIES

This week we look at the work of John Hattie in identifying, through metaanalyses, which strategies are effective in teaching. We also look at how the Victorian Department of Education has used Hattie's work to inform it's pedagogical framework.
