Assessment Tools Assignment

Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.4: Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

Grade Level: 1

Formal Assessment: Discuss the main components of a story and have each student fill in a blank story map as to which event happened first, middle, and at the end. They can write the events with words or draw pictures to show what happened.

Formal Assessment: Perform one minute timed readings with each child to determine accuracy and fluency.

Informal Assessment: Have the students record themselves reading a story and then retelling the story to the teacher.

Informal Assessment: Read a short passage to the students and ask them about the main character, the setting, and a problem that occurs in the story.

Standard: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RF.1.4.B: Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate, and expression on successive readings.

Grade Level: 1

Formal Assessment: Performing a formal assessment such as The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS).

Formal Assessment: Say a word out loud to the student and then have them change the first letter of the word and tell you what the new word is. Have them write the word on a piece of paper.

Informal Assessment: Place the students in small groups to read together and observe their expression, tone, and fluency.

Informal Assessment: Have the students pair up with a partner and do “Readers Theater” where they each read parts of a script or poem out loud to their peers.

Formal Assessment: Have the students find words that rhyme with their weekly spelling words and write each word with their spelling words.

Informal Assessment: Have children say words out loud phonetically using their hands.

Informal Assessment: Say a word slowly to the student and have the student blend the sounds together and guess what the word is.
