ART 1205 Beginning Drawing Laura Weiser Autumn 2019 Project: Artist Share Out Description: Each student will choose a modern or contemporary artist to research from the list that I provide (this will be in a discussion thread on blackboard). You will share your research with the class on your scheduled day (see schedule below). Details: This is an informal share out where you will give us some information about your artist and their work.

• You must show us images of your artist’s artwork. Please create a presentation (power point, google slides etc..) Be prepared to speak about and answer questions about the artist. Each student will use the computer in the classroom to present.

• Your presentation should be about 10 mins in length. Be prepared to answer questions about your artist.

• All of the resources for this project will be under the “artist share out” section of blackboard. You presentation should be submitted in the assignment.

Research info: • You can give some quick biographical information about your artist but the focus of your

presentation should be on their artwork. Some question to answer in your presentation might be: What subject matter do they work with? What materials do they use? What themes are prevalent in their art? In what way does their art communicate? How do you interpret their work and what is your opinion of their art? Is there an art historical context for their work? If your artist made drawings try and show some of those. Then you could relate it to what we have done in class.

• Do research beyond looking at images online. Read articles and bios about your artist written by galleries, museums, or critics. See if your artist has a statement about their work on their website. Look for interviews or documentaries about them (look for videos too).
