Article Summary Five

The article by Chiaranai, Chantira (2016) is a qualitative study of the lived experience of patients receiving hemodialysis treatment for end-stage renal disease. ESRD is a fateful condition where the kidneys do not remove water and waste adequately from the blood. The disease impacts daily living activities since this disease impacts psychological, emotional, and physical functions according Panday, V. Nannan (2017). This research article's primary purpose is to understand better the experiences of the daily life of Thai clients with this disease who are on HD. The author also manages to provide a precise description of their findings after collecting the research information. The author reviewed the role of nurses in providing care to individuals with this disease and HD. As stated in the article, the author aims to research the Thai patients with this disease lived experience who currently are getting HD treatment.

The results indicated that these people live with challenges such as facing life limitations, dependence on medical technologies, and living with uncertainty. Those who participated defined life's limitations in terms of economic, physical, and social aspects that mostly led to emotional distress. They all complained of signs experience after and during HD. The participants also explained living with doubts as being uncertain, doubtful, unpredictable, and hesitant. They also acknowledged the advanced technology that had assisted to extend their lives. In conclusion, from the results discussed, it is evident that the experience lived by these individuals with this disease share the same things with the lived experiences. The study suggests that even though the individuals who are examined with this disease have access to treatment of HD, there should be more attentiveness to the early treatment and prevention of diabetes and hypertension is required.
