Quantitative Research Article Critique

Choose a quantitative research article of your choice, I recommend you find something within your area of interest. The article should be published within the last five years, if you find a good article older than five years I can review it and you may potentially use the article. Please follow the rubric to critique the article. Please look at the longer description on the rubric. You will be identifying key elements of quantitative research as well as appraising the validity of the study. Your critique should be 3-5 pages in length. Please use APA format. Please cite your resources, I will be using your citation to look up your articles so you will not need to submit a copy of the article to me.

• Identifies purpose, problem statement, and/or hypotheses • Evaluates the extent to which the researcher’s establish the importance of the problem to practice. • Analyzes supporting review of the literature as summarized in the research article. • Discusses the impact of the written presentation on the reader’s comprehension of the study’s purpose and significance. Identify the presence of a theoretical or conceptual model. Does the framework align with the research question?

This criterion is linked to a Learning Outcome Critique Methods: research design, internal and external validity, sampling and ethical issues.

• Identifies research design and rationale for designation. • Analyzes fit between research design and research question(s). Evaluates effect of instruments on validity of results. (If used) • Evaluates “representativeness” of sample related to target population. • Analyzes the appropriate controls used by researchers to promote internal validity of the study. Address ethical considerations and concerns.

• Identify instrument used for data collection, what is the rationale for the selection for the instrument and how is the instrument accuracy maintained. What is the reliability and validity of the instrument used? How was intervention fidelity maintained? • Were the descriptive and inferential statistics appropriate to the level of measurement for each variable? Did the testing support or not support the research question/hypothesis?

• Are the results presented objectively without bias? • What limitations are weakness are identified? What further research is needed/recommended? • What is the study's relevance to clinical practice? What are the strength, quality and consistency of evidence provided by this study. Is the study's application feasible and generalizable?
