8. Shahnameh

9. Islamic geometric

10. Architectural elements

Part 1): Write a thoughtful, critical research paper about your choice; formulate the purpose of your work – what do you aim to elucidate through your research and why do you think this aim is worth pursuing?

Including:

1. Its origin/history. (if not Islamic, explain its origin and influence by its culture)

2. Its journey to and within the Islamic world.

3. Its methods, techniques and materials and different styles.

Part 2) Choose one artwork from Met Museum website based on your research topic.

**Some important issues/questions to consider:

Technique and Materials: what techniques, methods and materials were used to construct that art? Was the workmanship/technique considered innovative or new? How did they obtain materials for this artwork?

Cultural journey: what are the differences of that art in different Islamic regions and culture in some timeline?

All sources and quotations in your paper must be properly documented in footnotes and you must include a complete bibliography of all works cited or consulted. ( when citing a source, do not forget to indicate its author, title, place of publication, publisher’s name, year of publication and page number from which you cite; if you cite an Internet resource, provide the URL)

Notes and bibliography should be in Chicago Manual of Style format.

*If you have figures: Cite the artist's name, title in italics, the medium and support, the date, and the institution or individual who owns the work, the city, and, if needed for clarification, the state. If the location is unknown use, “whereabouts unknown” in parentheses.

Late Policy

Late papers will be penalized 1/3 of a letter grade per day late, include weekend. Extensions will only be granted in cases of legitimate excuse.
