Part 1:
For this week's applied assignment, let's continue to learn from each other. So, for this week, please be sure to do the following:
(1) Fully answer the questions below in your thread ( 10 points)
(2) Meaningfully (and respectfully) respond to two other threads from your peers ( 10 points)
***********************************************
Think of a time when you have witnessed discrimination against an out-group member of yours . In other words, not someone in any of your own in-groups and I strongly encourage you to think of other groups as opposed to only racial groups.
(1) Describe the situation. Be sure to include sufficient detail needed to understand the situation.
(2) Honestly describe how you responded to that situations and reflect on what factors likely influenced your reaction. Don't be too surface level here. Take a moment to really reflect on what influenced your behavior/decision here.
(3) Having now read the research on this topic and the impact of prejudice and discrimination has on us, reflect on how you think the situation likely impacted the person who was discriminated against in your situation. How would you have felt if you were in that position? How would you have felt if someone you loved was in that position?
(4) Finally, knowing what you know now and reflecting back on things, if you were in a similar position now, do you think you would respond differently? Would those influences from part 2 still weight heavily on you? Explain your answer.
Part 2:
For this discussion read the attached research study (Crowley et al., 2019) and discuss what you found most interesting about the study. Its methodology? The questions it addressed? Its findings? What specifically did you find interesting? Next, discuss whether you have experienced unwanted sexual attention at school or at work. Have you experienced gender harassment? Refer to the lecture and/or the textbook for descriptions of the different kinds of sexual harassment.
