 I would like you to identify at least two archaeological hoaxes (sometimes called “forgeries”) and one non-archaeological hoax.  For each hoax analyze the example in terms of the following issues as presented by Feder and discussed in class:

· What is the historical/cultural/social context of the hoax?

· What is being hoaxed?

· How long was the hoaxed perpetrated for?

· How did the hoax “give people what they wanted”?

· What did the hoaxer(s) gain from the hoax?

· What negative outcomes arose from the hoax (for example, did it cause any harm)?

· Do you think you would have believed this hoax, had you not learned about it in this assignment?
