The first objective is cognitive and reads as: Identify the classroom environment to determine a behavior pattern, learning characteristics, and attitudes. This objective aids in customizing a management plan for each teacher. New teachers rate classroom behavior has the number one challenge to being unprepared for the school year (Capizzi,2009). Classroom management skills are generally taught in teacher certifications program, but the experience is the best route. No classroom is the same, so being adaptable is key to creating a plan.

 

Behavioral

The second objective is behavioral and reads as: Define clear academic and behavioral expectation for the class. Productive classroom management involves routine, policies, and procedures in place. No specific routine works for all students and teachers; the learner will have to choose the best plan for their classroom and train students on how to follow these routines. Creating a class culture will help students engage in consistent classroom behavior (Sterling, 2009). A classroom plan should be detailed from start to finish. If a teacher has a schedule to refer to, this schedule will keep the class organized and assist in students staying on task.

 

Affective

The third objective is affective and reads as: Respond effectively to disruptive behavior in a positive and consistent manner. The learner has to know each student's classification and background to achieve a successful management plan.  The learner should consider student-based, school-based, and environmental based factors when it comes to disruptive behavior (Capizzi,2009). The teacher should know all the background information on each student before the school year to respond effectively to disruptive behavior. For example, if a student with ADHD is disruptive if the teacher is already aware of the student's condition the teacher will know to respond. Understanding your student's background and learning their personality will help to maintain a functional classroom management plan.
