Portfolio Example LW4

(Keep in mind this is just an example, you can use your own style)

The portfolio should contain these elements:

1. The Table you used for comparing the articles

2. A description of patters using proper in-text APA references

Analysis

For this example, two articles were compared which were about the same story: the White House Press Secretary being kicked out of a restaurant. The sources used are written by Murray (2018) and Papenfuss (2018).

Both Murray (2018) and Papenfuss (2018) cover the same story, and both attempt to blame someone. Murray (2018) says that the restaurant owners were in the wrong here and that they should not have denied service to Sarah Sanders. She directly attacks the restaurant owners and does not say anything about the reaction from Trump. Papenfuss (2018), on the other hand, attacks President Trump directly, attacking his statements.

While it seems that the two stories could not be more different since they both attack different sides, there are two interesting similarities that can be found. First of all, both articles find it important to blame someone, but not blame Sanders. Second, both articles call the persons they attacked hypocritical. Papenfuss (2018) attacks Trump because she thinks that Trump should not be able to call a restaurant dirty since his own restaurants have had many health code violations. Mary (2018), says the owners of the restaurant are hypocritical because they denied service to Sanders for ethical reasons (some of their staff is LGBT), even though they strongly oppose discrimination against LGBT people in similar situations.

Thus interestingly, two similarities can be found. First is that Sanders is not targeted but someone else is the center of attention of the article. Second, both use a similar tactic of calling out their hypocrisy.
