America has one of the highest populations of inmates in the world; a census was taken claims of two million two hundred individuals exist. Why? Especially, for prisoners convicted due to violent offences. Over time, as it has been through the nineties, the United States legal system has gotten tougher and although not instituted the number of inmates serving long terms has increased. In this way, it has grown the population, where there would be less if there were little or no change to the current legislation. Why has crime indulged tougher regulations? It is a fact that in this modern day technology has taken over every aspect of human life. And, it is in this voluntary dictatorship reign that we aim to progress our dominion over other men.

It is to be understood that laws are subject to change, the same as mountains are bound to face erosion over time. It is, therefore, right to change the current law to reflect what the society of today expects and demands. The lowering of sentences may favour villains that were cultivated and propagated in the last millennium. Yes, this creates more flow of individuals, but this should be asked, do the persons that visit these places get rehabilitated, or it is for other uses. An example, Pelican Bay in the United States, it is said that people gain the virtue through dirty deeds in the street to earn accommodation in the centre. It is such institutions that beg far too familiar questions, is it possible to eliminate the population without cutting the long-term sentences? No, it is not feasible since research details that since the year 2000 the number of inmates with over ten-year sentences has increased in ten states.

Is it possible to entirely rehabilitate an individual with a shorter jail term? The common questions; the structure, culture, policies, practices and beliefs should be changed by the administration and the government of the day. The practices should be engaged to propagate that which is positive in every person; maximum security is not the way to ensure that people are rehabilitated. Regardless of the legislation that has been enacted at the little has taken place to reduce the congestion in many prisons across the America. It 's hard to regard these places like home, but for a minority, this is what they call home. Others work all their life to be graded as the worst of the worst; these places become headquarters of the criminal world propagated by those who have little to lose and all to gain, long-term detainees.
