Air Pollution

In the past, many years' pollution has drastically increased in the world. The biggest issue faced by the world nowadays to develop a plan that can deal with different sorts of pollution. Due to urbanization and industrialization in recent years the quality of air has been dropped drastically. Air pollution is one of the rising problems in the modern world. Harmful gases released from factories and industries are causing the air quality to be polluted in very harmful. Without keeping a check on the large corporate industries air pollution would continue to increase. Another reason for the increase in air pollution is due to deforestation. Deforestation is occurring due to several reasons and most common of those all are urbanization. Trees contribute to purifying the air present and make it breathable for humans. Cities and towns are constructed at an alarming speed and due to that forests are being cut down. Due to the decrease in the number of trees and increase in the industries the air is not being filtered at the appropriate rate hence air pollution is causing problems to humans. Air pollution is increasing due to an increase in industries and deforestation and this could only be reversed if there is a regular check on industrial waste disposal and reforestation. Johnny Simon, a reporter for Quartz has reported a story about a technique that was used in Bangkok to reduce the increase in air pollution. Due to the increase in air pollution at an alarming rate people in Bangkok were forced to wear masks as they commute. To tackle such drastic problem officials of Bangkok came up with an innovative plan of spraying water from the drones so that pollution in the air could be washed away. According to a report written by Johnny, “Earlier in the week, levels of PM2.5—tiny particles 2.5 microns in diameter or smaller that can penetrate deep into the lungs—reached 185 micrograms per cubic meter” (Simon), it shows the increasing pollutions rate in the area. The air quality improved by reducing 10 microorganisms per cubic meter in only one hour of spraying.

The solution seems to be quite effective because it showed immediate results for the people of Bangkok. It is observed that in only one hour of water spraying the air quality improved. A similar measure could be taken in other areas of Bangkok so that people could breathe cleaner air. However, the only disadvantage of this solution is that it provides a temporary fix. It doesn’t have a long-term solution because it is impossible to waste a large quantity daily. Also, at this pace, it would take years to normalize the air quality in Bangkok.

Another article written by Rishika Pardikar is proving with the solution of dealing with the smog. Smog is a harmful mixture of greenhouse gases that can be formed due to traffic and industry pollution. The biggest reason for the increase of smog in India is due to burning of agricultural residues. Farmers burn these residues to clear the field of the new crops which would be planted in the next season. A study conducted by Harvard’s John A Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences said “On certain days, during peak fire season, air pollution in Delhi, which is located downwind of the fire, is about 20 times higher than the threshold for safe air as defined by WHO” (Pardikar), it shows that how rate of pollution is increasing with different factors. A company called Bio-lutions has constructed a factory near Bangalore to convert the waste into a fiber. They can then be made into packing boxes which could be a replacement for plastic bags as well.

The positive thing about this solution is that it deals with two problems at once. Not only would it stop farmers from burning agricultural waste and contributing to smog, but it would also provide an alternative for plastic bags which are also the major cause of pollution in the world. Another benefit is that it is a tested experiment in Karnataka that has provided positive results for the company. The only problem over here is that it won’t provide the quick results. One factory in the area won’t be enough to deal with the vast area covered with crops.

The solution proposed in article one can be improved further as well. The initiative taken by the officials of Bangkok is correct, but it doesn’t come with the long-term plan. This idea can be improved further if officials try to launch the initiative of creating artificial rain in the city. Silver iodide or dry ice is added in the atmosphere by the artillery gun attached to aircraft. This would create artificial rain hence pollution would reduce at a faster rate. Meanwhile, according to Rishika Pardikar, there is a simple solution to such a drastic problem. Government officials should start the program of awareness among local farmers. Educate them about the issues caused by air pollution and how they can contribute to reducing the problem. Public support is important to launch any program successfully. (I have to change this paragraph and put one with your proposed solution explained. According with the solution in the thesis statements).

Audiences that would be reading about my solution might have some concerns over them. For example, many people would argue that isn’t it harmful to use the chemicals in the production of rain. People might pressurize me to find out about the side effects of silver iodide before actually using it to generate artificial rain. Another argument would be about the estimated expense that would be spent on this project. Questions might raise that whether this project is economical or not. Rishika Pardikar described that people might argue that how the government would encourage people to cooperate. Also, people would like to know how the government is planning to convince the local farmers to take awareness programs.

To address the very concern of my audience I would be listing out several examples where artificial rain initiative was launched by the officials. This would help me I clarify the concerns of my audiences. I would be providing them with the example of China that is currently producing 55 billion tons of rain due to artificial methods (Guilford). Any harmful side effects would have been discovered until now. To address the second concern for convincing people my solution would be to launch the reward-based program for local farmers. Those who are willing to cooperate with the officials and Bio-lutions would be getting some incentive in the form of money other farming benefits. This would convince people to take part in educational awareness programs.

Air pollution surely is one of the major reasons for causing many medical emergencies. As air pollution increases the risk of getting fatal diseases also increase. For example, air pollution contributes to causing asthma, lung cancer, ventricular hypothermia, etc. Adults need to realize that they are not making this world saver for their future generations. Children born in this modern world wouldn’t know what breathing in fresh air feels like. They would be born in a world where there is very little chance of survival. Even though they survive by any chance, they would spend their entire life in the constant struggle of getting oxygen to breathe. If we want to save and protect our children from this horrible future, we must start by checking ourselves. The real change starts within. Hence everyone should swear never to pollute or litter. Also, plant more and more trees so that fresh oxygen could be produced.
