History of Racism (2)
African American Studies 335- History of Racism
As we made our way to the end of the semester- it is evident that you all have learned a lot from this class and life and have likely changed in ways that you may or may not have even realized. This course project is designed to focus on self-reflecting on your “journey” in this class and anything and everything relating to race and racism. In a 3-4 page double spaced reflection paper you will 1) reveal all of your personal main “take-aways” from this History of Racism class and why these parts stood out to you (Examples- I learned that racism is connected to power, that people believed in and practiced Eugenics, that different systems continued the oppression of slavery after it was abolished etc), 2) share how its changed you as a person (Example- I now think differently about the voting system, Malcolm X and the Black Lives Matter Movement, I now realized that I have internalized a lot of anti-black ideas etc) and finally, 3) share what actions you plan to take in the future from the things you learned and how you plan to resist and fight against racism and create spread more love. (Examples- I plan to take more ethnic studies courses, I plan to speak up when I hear a friend or family member or even a stranger make racist remarks etc) Please try to think of at least four things per category.
