Properties of Real Numbers (10 day unit)

Grade Level 9th Grade

Objective Students will identify the different types of real number properties with 80% accuracy. (Bloom’s Application, DOK-1)

Summary This lesson is to help the students recognize the different parts in the properties.

Implementation

Learning Context This is the second chapter of the book. It brings forth the different properties such ass commutative, associative, distributive, identity, and inverse. Students will write and read the description of each property to get an understanding.

Procedure

· Bell Ringer- students write the different properties (5 Minutes)

· Set- Introduction of the material (5 minutes)

· Main Lecture (20 minutes)

· Directions for the activity (2 minutes)

· Students complete the activity (13 minutes)

· Closure (5 minutes)

Differentiated Instruction

Remediation Objective: Students will match the different properties of real numbers with no errors. (Bloom’s Application, DOK-1)

Enrichment Objective: Students will list the different properties of real numbers with 90% accuracy (Bloom’s Application, DOK-1)

Sample Student Products

Real Number Property Sheet (Sheets.pdf)

Collaboration

Students will work in groups for this activity.

Time Allotment This is a one-class period for 50 minutes.

Author’s Comments and Reflection

This is the second chapter of the book. The students will have a clear means of each property.
