This study was to find a better understanding of the characteristics of informal caregivers who provide transportation assistance and to explore the types of this assistance. Informal transportation caregivers were most often women, on average 61 years old and generally college educated, employed full or part time, providing care to a family member, there was no burden that was actually reported between these individuals with few differences of gender help of caregivers of the age group of the care recipient.

Summarizing the types of number of alternate transport sources of transportation used by older drivers and to explore whether the distances drive by older drivers vary by their use of alternate transport. The results suggest that most older drives have at least one alternate source of transportation which is riding passenger with a family member or a friend.

This study examined alternative means of mobility that nondriving older adults rely on and their impact on their wellbeing. Results state that nondrivers of older adults who relied on their informal support system and paid assistance to drive them to places. About half reported walking/using a wheelchair or scooter. A significant proportion of never drivers used public transportation and van/shuttle services. Nondrivers who sometimes walked for transport had lower depressive symptoms than those who did not walk.
