Adopt Artist’s project

Adopt an Artist Week 1 Instructions

Purpose:

To analyze art terms and apply creative principles. This project requires a minimum of 15 hours of creative activity.

Instructions:

Phase 1: Explore Trivium and choose a period of time that interests you. Select an artist and one artwork created by her/him. Take a photo and save for your PowerPoint Gallery Presentation.

Adopt an Artist Week 2 Instructions

Purpose:

To select and research an artist who interests you from any time period. This should be someone who is well-known, with enough of an art history footprint to make researching a rewarding experience (instead of a frustrating one).

Instructions:

Post the artist you chose and one artwork created by them in the  Week 2 Discussion Forum .

Phase 2 - Research your artist's personal background, art style, any personal or political influences, faith (or lack of it), and take notes.

1. Look for direct quotes from your artist or from someone who knew her/him. Take notes for your 500 word artist biography/personal experience paper and include a citation/source for every quote.

2. Choose the medium (painting, drawing, collage, textile, craft, digital, sculpture, etc) that you would like to use to interpret, not copy, your artist's style.

3. Think about on this creative process and take notes to share in your paper.

4. Start planning your art piece.

5. Take a photo of your notes/sketches to demonstrate phase 2 of your Adopt an Artist project.

Adopt an Artist Week 3 Instructions

Purpose:

To begin the creative process.

Instructions:

Phase 3 - Explore materials and dimensions (size) of your piece.

1. Will you need acrylic paints, a canvas, brushes? Acrylics dry very quickly, so keep that in mind if you're working with them.

2. Will you need fabric for a textile piece? Oil paints and thinner? Oil paints take weeks to dry, so take this into consideration. Take notes and share a thought or two in your 500 word artist biography/personal experience paper.

3. Remember, you are interpreting your artist's style, not copying the exact art piece they created.

4. Take a photo of your materials and save it to complete Phase 3 of your Adopt an Artist project.

5. Begin work on your project.

Adopt an Artist Week 4 Instructions

Purpose:

To explore ideas, reflect, and continue creating your art piece.

There are many brief, detailed videos on YouTube that explain how to create different types of art projects: mosaic tile, water color, digital--explore whatever method you feel drawn to...

Phase 4 - Explore. View  How I Get My Creative Ideas  and  Easy Waterfall Landscape for Beginners  for ideas on how to create an art piece.

1. Explore this color wheel to see how colors compliment each other:   What is a Color Wheel?

2. Reflect on your direction:  What drew you to the artist and art piece you chose? Does something trouble you? Spiritually? Politically? Does someone or something make you happy? Is there an event in your life you would like to remember? Is there any meaning you would like to convey? Take notes and share briefly in your paper.

3. Continue creating.

4. Take a photo of your art piece (at this unfinished stage) and save it to complete Phase 4 of your Adopt an Artist project.

Adopt an Artist Week 5 Instructions

Purpose:

To focus, reflect, and continue creating your art piece.

Phase 5 - Focus. View  God's Call for Creativity  and  Does God Care About Art?  for a new perspective on your art piece.

1. Focus: As you work on your art piece, reconsider its purpose and meaning.

2. Reflect: Can you glorify God by this simple expression of creativity?

3. Write down your thoughts and include one or two in your final paper or PowerPoint.

4. Continue creating.

5. Take a photo of your art piece (at this unfinished stage) and save it to complete Phase 5 of your Adopt an Artist project.

Adopt an Artist Week 6 Instructions

Purpose:

To exhibit your artwork in a digital Gallery and complete your final art paper.

Instructions:

Phase 6 - Gallery. Create a media presentation in VoiceThread that displays your art piece (PowerPoint with voice-over). Be creative!

1. Include the 5 photos you took as you were working on your project and a 6th photo of the finished work (6 total photos).

2. Your PowerPoint should be a minimum of 15 slides that tell the story of your art piece. This can include different angles of your piece, artist's quotations or anything you feel is related to the creative process.

3. You may use music, video, quotes, .jpgs (and even family/friends/pets) within your presentation.

4. Post a link to your presentation in the  Week 6 Observation Activity - Gallery  forum.

Artist Biography Paper

In 500 words, explain your experience creating your artwork. 250 words should tell us about the artist you chose, and 250 words should reflect on your art piece: Why did you make it? What does it mean to you?
