Small Activity 1: Apply the Foundations of Knowledge Model
The Foundation of Knowledge Model provides a framework for understanding how knowledge is generated and made useful to support decision-making and safe, effective clinical practice. For this assignment, you will work as a team to identify and describe two scenarios from your clinical experiences – one in which knowledge was used successfully to support decision-making, and a second in which poor decision-making resulted from a lack of knowledge – and analyze both scenarios using the Foundation of Knowledge Model.
In completing this assignment, be sure to refer to Chapter 1 in the McGonigle and Mastrian text as a source of evidence to support your observations related to each scenario.
SCENARIO 1
Describe a clinical scenario involving effective, knowledge-based decision-making:
1. How was knowledge acquired?
2. How was knowledge processed?
3. How was knowledge generated?
4. How was knowledge disseminated?
5. How was feedback used and what was the effect on the foundation of knowledge?
6. Could any of the above processes been improved to better support clinical decision-making? If so, how?
SCENARIO 2
Describe a clinical scenario involving ineffective, poor decision-making:
If so, how?
