My own values and beliefs are, without a doubt, honesty first. I have built positive relationships with my students, parents, coworkers, and leadership because of honesty. You can only be yourself because everyone else is taken. Being my true authentic self will allow me to be accepting of others. Also, it saves time, removes negative energy, and helps me to avoid trying to pretend to be something I am not. I believe everyone is entitled to be free in their skin. Sarah's distinction award for ensuring racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity was integral to the centers' programs. Then turning around and posting that comment on social media leaves me to see her as a hypocrite. When we have concerns about the professional behavior of a coworker, we shall first let that person know in a way that shows respect for personal dignity and diversity for each other (NAEYC, 2011). My values consist of me being true to the cause and finding room to allow others to be their best. Sarah needs to be confronted because she has people developing programs based on her saying she wants diversity is essential to support the whole child. However, in reality, she does not if the child does not fall into her belief in what a child should be.

The NAEYC Code of Ethics and ethical principles that should be considered as appreciating a childhood is a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle (NAEYC, 2011). Remember that we can not decide for our children who or what they will be when they grow up. She was not happy to see Feng in the wedding dress and then mentioned that his father gave explicit instructions to redirect the behavior. Suppose the father gave such explicit instruction, why not have a conversation with the father to explain to them that Feng is attending a center where he can express himself and test limits within safe boundaries. Sharing pertinent information with the rest of the team is essential to allow them to weigh their thoughts, especially since they are in direct contact with the child. NAEYC's code of ethical conduct and statement of commitment is clear and concise about the core values and principles that should be respected and honored to have an environment that welcomes diversity. The position statement promotes a structured foundation for all.

Leadership principles and behaviors must be in one accord. Leadership principles and behaviors set the tone for building a safe, engaging, and diversity where children can build their social and emotional, along with a place where they can play and grow. Recognize and respect each child's unique qualities, abilities, and potential (NAEYC, 2011). Be the example you want to see; the leadership position comes with much responsibility and depends on the team working with them. Sarah was not showing leadership qualities or behaviors by posting that insensitive statement. She is not being honest with herself or her team, which will create turmoil among the team. Sarah must be confronted, and the team must decide whether she should hold her position or be asked to step down because of an insensitive approach to her staff and students at the center.

Main Question Post

Week 5

As a leader in any employment setting, you have a responsibility to the staff you serve as well as the stakeholders of that organization. Leaders must always display moral uprightness and uphold all professional standards. In this scenario, Sarah as a program administrator has not done this. Her comments on a social media account targets a certain group of individuals and is seen in the public eye. Her blatant disregard for her organizations policy of social media use (I am pretty sure they have one) shows she lacks ethical integrity and professionalism (Administration for Children and Families, 2018).

The course of action that needs to be followed here includes reprimand and or up to termination. All employees sign a code of conduct and are made aware of consequences if these rules are not followed (Kane, 2021). The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC, 2005) principal P-3A.2 says, “When we have concerns about the professional behavior of a co-worker, we shall first let that person know of our concern in a way that shows respect for personal dignity and for the diversity to be found among staff members, and then attempt to resolve the matter collegially and in a confidential manner”. This is one of its principals under Ethical Responsibilities to Colleagues that I feel fit this scenario.

My beliefs and values when it come to this scenario is that as a leader, I would be sure to adhere one to my organization’s rules and procedures. I would not do anything to jeopardize the reputation of said organization. Two, always conducting myself in public and private in a positive light by displaying good leadership always cultivating a shared vision and building a strong leadership team. Leading by example, being a lifelong learner that encourages learning in all aspects of life, as stimulating and empowering (Brierton, 2016).
