What did you find to be compelling and enlightening? And what other advice could you give from your experience.

In our text that five principles that define ethical leadership are (a) respect (b) service (c) justice (d) honesty (e) and community (Northouse, 2018). When we look at leadership these values encompass what a leader should be so that the followers follow. Respecting other is that of respecting their opinion even though it may be different from yours and realizing that this can occur. Service is just that making sure that when you decide it is not based upon greed but based upon the followers that you have. Justice is simply making sure that everyone is equal this allows for decisions to be accepted easier. Honesty is when the leader has built the trust and made sure that each decision is based upon the ethical leader. And community is a team-based approach to leadership making sure that everyone is held in high regard.

Which two of the five principles covered in Chapter 16 do you think are the most important, and why?

The two attributes that I feel are important to a leader are the honesty and service. These two to me play upon each other in every aspect of the job. Service is the decisions you make based on the decisions on busines and this lends credence to honesty. If every decision you make is for the betterment of your business environment, then each follower will know that you are honest. They will even be ok with saying “Hey we need this so that we can add more jobs.” In which leaders need to follow through with. Each one plays off each other and builds a respectful relationship between leadership and followership.

Discuss this in the context of a specific example, either from your own professional experience, or from one of the case studies in Chapter 13 of the course textbook.

In my own world of leadership, I have had a manager that was above board and would let us know that things were changing. He was good at his job and knew leadership and the ins and outs of the processes. He built trust within the organization by fighting for the employees and not for the corporation. He started with 14 employees and it grew to over 60 prior to his leaving. He started with four trucks and instantly within the first few weeks he had placed 12 trucks on the road to help patients out. He was focused on honesty, service and justice for the employees and it showed. Each an every one of us would follow him and make the company better than we had started with. Each day the respect grew, until one day it tumbled down and became no trust due to one issue with a female employee. After this the trust, respect, and service were gone.
