What items did you find to be compelling and enlightening?

One of the 10 truths I think are the most important for leaders to understand is #10 “Great leaders insist on excellent, pristine communication.” Researchers have found that, in addition to communication behaviors, personality plays a role in leadership emergence (Northouse, 2018). Being like the group makes a leader liked by the group and gives them influence. Collaborating with the team is needed because leaders are more proactive and more emotionally involved. According to Adams (2012), “communication emails should be short, friendly and the verbal communication should be direct and not rambling,” (para. 13).

Being a leader emotional intelligence is an important construct of people who are more sensitive to their emotions. This is when leaders hold their composure during difficult times and hostile people at work. They need to develop strong people skills to manage their staff’s emotions (Emotional intelligence: Developing strong people skills). Have strong social skills and not be an outsider.

For leaders to control their emotions they need to have characteristics of emotional intelligence. Maybe even take some courses your job provides for you to understand it. Leaders should not take opinions or comments personal. Don’t take an email personal or defensive because emails don’t have a voice and can be portrayed in a different way. This is having self-regulation not to become too angry or jealous. Stay motivated with your peers and have a passion for challenges they make you stronger. Have empathy for others they may come into work with a bad evening with their family or something else personal.

We have goals throughout the year we have to accomplish at my job. Your goal must be relevant to your job. You need to know the steps you will be taking towards your goal. Small goals can be accomplished in one week, but big goals take time. When you think of your goals make sure what are the benefits of this goal. Be specific and make SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant).

It is not appropriate to give up on a goal. You will be looked at as a failure and can’t keep up changes and strategies you come across during the process. If your goal isn’t what you expected don’t give up on it “change it” to where you understand what you are learning to achieve your goal.
