How do these impact your relationships at work with those from other cultures? What are some of the important customs of your culture that are different than those who are members of different ethnic groups or from cultures in the global world. What are these that are the same and different? Why is it important to know the customs of others in building relationships with them?

Paradigms of Culture: Implications of Culture to Leadership

The word 'culture' is widely defined. Kahn defines it as "the collective identities of groups of people and various aspects of their societies". The meaning of culture is comprised of how civilization within a culture is measured, such as the social class or order, traditions and rituals, and belief systems and values held by the members of the cultural group. Differences in cultures that can be compared and applied to any group are what is meant by the general culture. A framework that provides a perspective for comparing different cultures. Culture general is a way to explore different values, beliefs, and behaviors of cultures. A specific culture is having a deep understanding of cultural characteristics. Building on that by having a deeper understanding of specific characteristics of culture enhances cultural skills in leadership interactions.

Ethnocentrism is the act of judging another culture based on preconceptions of one's own culture (Kahn, 2015). Resisting ethnocentrism and establishing trust among group members are the most effective qualities of leaders of global companies.

It is natural to have division among multi-cultural teams in organizations. For organizations to be effective in merging and acquisition efforts, they must develop connection strategies and other ways of creating integration and a sense of belonging. Diversity increases problem-solving abilities and creative, innovative thinking. By developing a diverse culture, it will increase the probability of a successful company merger.

Paradigms affect actions and thought processes. Paradigms are dependent on the location of where one lives, what thoughts and beliefs surround a subject, how others feel about the subject, and how it is defined. Cultural beliefs can greatly affect the meanings and beliefs held by certain people. This has great implications for leaders in multi-cultural businesses.
