Running head: PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PLAN 1
PERSONAL LEADERSHIP PLAN 2
Abstract
It is necessary for a leader to have vision. This vision comes from planning accordingly and with detail. In this leadership plan, I have mapped out what I believe will take me to a good trajectory to great leadership. There are many things I must work on internally that will show externally at my place of work as a leader. I will be relying on some mentors and loved ones to help me get there.

Personal Leadership Plan
A great leader knows himself or herself and seeks self-improvement. It’s important to have a vision because a leader without a vision leads nowhere. Personally, I wish to be a better version of myself. I do not wish to change who I am as a person and my character but improve on the traits of leadership I possess and practice. As a leader I must stay true to myself regardless of what position I am in, either small-team leadership or management and higher. A 5-year plan is a great tool to aim for a leader’s mission and vision. In 5 years, regardless of position, I want more responsibilities in leadership. I want to influence and mentor more to my subordinates and peers. I want to encourage others to enter the field of medicine and patient care and as a leader I want to help those who may be struggling with burnout. Right now, I am exploring my options and passions into what specific field I want to enter. Radiologic department manager is not of my passions. Teaching radiologic technology or entering the field of surgical instruments are areas where I am the most interested. As a teacher of radiologic technology, I will be very involved in the growing and mentorship of students as professionals. This is something that really inspires me because I love to see others grow and mature and become passionate with their jobs. As a surgical sales representative I will be more focused in the organization and myself instead of the individuals.
To achieve my 5-year goal there are a couple of things I must achieve academically and personally. As stated before, I want to improve in my character and leadership. Before I take on more responsibility to lead, I want to avoid certain mistakes. I want my integrity and communication to grow. One of my weaknesses is my ability to be personable with strangers to

develop quality relationships. As a good leader, one does not simply create a good relationship with his or her team without being friendly, compassionate, respectful and a good listener. I believe I am a good listener, but I struggle with initiating conversations and establishing a good rapport and trust with others. In the next year, I can push myself out of my comfort zone to begin speaking more. Becoming less of an introvert is one of my goals for 2021. This will help if I enter the world of sales. My vision is to become someone who can initiate a good conversation and keep it going. Joe Rogan is an idol of mine for that reason. During his interviews he asks just the right questions to keep a conversation interesting and keeps the person being interviewed from losing focus. Another area I must focus on this upcoming year is academics. Regardless of what field I enter I need my bachelor’s degree. I believe not only does a bachelor’s degree look great on a resume (especially for imaging techs), but it trains you to be more adverse in the many areas of leadership and the field. I believe I also need to excel in academics if I were to enter the field of teaching. It would be hypocritical of me to demand great performance of my students if I did not do well in school.
A good leader does not get to where he or she is at on their own. There are many people that are monumental in the development of a leader. There are many people I turn to in time of need that will make me into the leader I wish to be. No matter where I go and where I go, I always look for a good mentor. If there is a good team leader, I will ask if I can learn from them. If there is a bad leader, I will study them and learn from their mistakes and not practice the traits

they show towards their subordinates. I believe that this has a domino effect and makes future generations of leaders better than the ones before.
My specific goals are those that meet my criteria of financial, spiritual, personal, and career. Financially, short-term I’m very content. I believe that in order to be financially happy, one must count their blessings and not compare themselves to others. Staying out of debt is also another way to remain financially happy. Financial improvement goals are necessary too. I am aiming to double my income by the end of my 30’s. I believe this is a realistic goal and will meet my needs. Spiritually one must be of sound mind. It has been proven that those that remain strong in their faith make better family members and leaders because during a time of hardship they turn to their faith and have a solid foundation in their beliefs and fortitude. Being stronger in my faith is one of my specific goals in being a better leader. For these specific goals, the timeline is the present. Right now, is the best time to begin these goals and not just for me but for everyone. I think that procrastination is the best killer of short-term goals. Meeting short-term goals within a time frame can and will lead to more success with long-term goals.
In order to meet these goals, I need a lot of mentoring and studying. When it comes to career success, I cannot do it on my own. Every day I fill my time with books, discussions, online seminars and podcasts. I think it’s also important to have someone to hold you accountable for the progress I am supposed to make. At the moment, I rely on 3 people to hold me accountable and that is my girlfriend of 3 years, my mother and father. They help me get closer to my vision. And ultimately it is up to my peers to judge my leadership and if I have made progress.
