E-commerce and m-commerce
Electronic commerce (e-commerce) is simply conducting business activities electronically over computer networks. Examples of the business activities conducted electrically are buying, selling, distributing, and many more, including business transactions between companies or companies and consumers that are done electronically. Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is e-commerce that involves using a mobile device such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, and any other mobile device to place orders and conducts any business (maamar, 2003).
For e and m-commerce to be successful, they have to be effective and reliable, i.e., safe, secure, affordable, and easy to use. So how does one or an organization ensure effectiveness? The first step is in ensuring that the website chosen has the following components:
· Community. This entails discussion forums and other social shopping tools that can build a loyal community of people interested in a company's product.
· Content. Here, the focus is on providing practical, accurate, and timely content such as market stock, exchange rates, and general economic news.
· Commerce involves the business aspect of the website
It is therefore essential to capture the above components to create a helpful website in e-commerce and m-commerce. Furthermore, it is essential to customize the site to accommodate specific objectives of the organization in question and its nature of business and its target audience.
E and m-commerce have countless advantages, but they come with a sizable amount of issues, as stated earlier. The most prominent ones are; consumer privacy concerns, consumer lack of trust, and global issue challenge like a language barrier. Consumer privacy concerns are a significant challenge as most people are worried about their information shared not being protected and can sometimes make them vulnerable to say identity theft.
A solution to the privacy concern has secure websites that unauthorized persons cannot access. To reassure the consumers, engaging them and forming a type of relationship is essential. The lack of trust can be fixed by adding reviews from previous customers to add to the credit score, hence building the trust of new customers. One can also make it known that the company has been in business for a prolonged and considerable investment has been made in the website. Another way is to use known brand ambassadors since they are more trusted. Lastly, it is essential to demonstrate a desire to build a relationship with potential clients. It is also essential to include website accreditation by a trusted authority.
The most prominent global issues are cultural challenges, language barriers, time and distance challenges, and infrastructure challenges (Niranjanamurthy et al., 2013). These challenges can be dealt with by building a website that is easy to use and understood across the globe, has more than one language depending on the target audience, can be accessed at all times, and uses better hardware and software.
Enterprise systems
Enterprise systems are essential to individuals and organizations in ensuring the flow and sharing of information with authorized users at different functions and levels. An enterprise system is vital to individuals and organizations. It ensures that information can be shared with authorized users in different capacities. The three available systems commonly used are; CRM, ERP, and PLM.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is a set of programs that manages a company's vital business operations (Bendoly & Jacobs, 2005). It offers integrated software from a single vendor, improving access to quality data for easier operational decision-making. In addition, it eliminates costly, inflexible legacy systems, thus improving the work process.
When addressing customer-related issues such as marketing, sales, distribution, accounting, and customer service, companies use the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. CRM makes it easier for companies to understand and anticipate current and potential customers' needs, hence making adjustments that can increase and retain loyal customers while optimizing how products and services are sold.
Product lifecycle management (PLM) creates a common respiratory of product information and processes needed to support the collaborative creation, management, and dissemination, use of product and packaging information. PLM helps in reducing the cost of production and ensure regulatory compliance (Andersen & Batchelor, 2012)
In conclusion, it is inevitable for any business today to operate without the enterprise systems above. Their use is very interdependence for the efficient running of a business. For example, I work in a flower farm that produces and fresh export flowers. We use ERP in managing all farm operations and departmental communication, which is very necessary for such an organization. In addition, CRM helps us maintain good relationships with our clients who are mostly abroad. We also use it to identify new markets.
Moreover lastly, the PLM system comes in handy when it comes to flower production. Flowers are highly perishable goods, and without efficient monitoring, huge losses will be inevitable. However, thanks to PLM, this can be avoided.
Peer Review 2:
Electronic commerce means purchasing goods or services online, using the internet. However, most e-commerce transactions are typically done on desktops and laptops, so users will have to search for a suitable place to conduct their business. Mobile-only e-commerce means that people can do their business transactions using their smartphones, regardless of their location, as long as they have access to the internet. To run a successful e-commerce business, it is critical to have a strong understanding of your target demographic, which includes identifying what customers like, how much money they have (and will spend), where they spend time online, as well as what they place value on. It should be both narrow and expansive. To be successful in e-commerce, an app needs to be proactive. To show that users are in place, use push notifications to alert users when it's the right time to use the app, and then invite them to do so. When users receive push notifications, they use the app to search for goods (Mandal, 2021).
An absence of trust in e-commerce transactions, confidentiality, and laws that are outdated act as the biggest impediments to the growth of e-commerce. Mobile commerce refers to the use of wireless technology, mobile phones, to conduct the sale and purchase of products and services. With regard to the m-commerce industry, security is a major concern. Boost online sales by increasing brand, email, and Facebook strategies and then strengthen mobile presence by growing website traffic.
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is a complete management approach, sometimes real-time, that includes all key business processes in conjunction with integrated software and technology. Customer relationship management is a business process that ensures all customer interactions are properly managed by following data analysis procedures. Using PLM software, companies will be able to keep track of all of the information and processes at every step of a product or service lifecycle regardless of their geographic location or business structure. This includes data from things like items, parts, products, documents, change orders, and workflow (Chen,2017).
An internal software application to record and monitor the interactions of the company with current and potential customers A growing number of businesses are implementing CRM systems to boost sales, obtain new leads, and improve customer satisfaction. Automated, shared, and secure information flow allows companies to centralize, share, and standardize product development methods. It cuts down on product development time, facilitates team communication, and capitalizes on previously hidden information and data. Employee-centered enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations impact the way employees work, and people don't like change. New systems and processes need to be thoroughly trained before they're implemented (Atalar,2017)
