Thank you for this topic. It actually has me now looking into something I would of never thought. Dont get me wrong I love being a nurse but after 11 years in the ER, I am ready for a change. Something that got my attention was Disaster specialist. But as Loya mentioned the salary is very low. So I clicked on careers page and it mentioned there for a Disaster and Emergency specialist. I would need my MPH degree and it definetley brought up the salary tremondously. Emergency management are people who are in charge for making sure that food, medicine, and water all make it to where they need to go. They work to ease all the suffering made caused by man made and natural disasters. You make sure individuals are taken care of during diasaters when they are unable to care for themsleves or their families. Same concept really as nursing but different as well.

I have worked with Hospice patients for five years and I have also worked at a reconstructive surgery facility for a year and I felt no connection with the patients in the surgery facility because it was an outpatient clinic. Now I am back in a hospice facility again. I love working with people at the end of life care and to help make their last days better and engage with them and their families. I was offered a case manager position but it will take me away from the bedside. I am not sure if I want to do this. I really enjoy being with patients and listening to their stories and making sure their care is provided.
During my calls, I realized how much disinformation related to COVID-19 is out there. People are frightened but at the same time, they don’t understand that preventions such as mask use are important and can minimize exposure. Lots of education as a public health nurse is required to properly do this job.
