Final Project: Research PowerPoint Presentation

o 50 points possible

o Develop a research-based PowerPoint presentation on a self-selected stress, resilience, or crisis- related topic that impacts individuals, families, and/or communities. The topic may be related to

one of the topics in the textbook or a topic not found in the textbook. Email me with your topic

and a brief description for my approval and feedback. You may NOT use a topic that you have

written about previously for a project or paper. If you want to take a different direction with a

topic you have worked on before, describe that to me in the email. You are required to have proof

(my response email) that you are cleared to work on the topic you have selected for your Final

Project.

o The presentation should be 8-12 slides in length, not including the title slide and the references slide(s). Current research findings, statistics, and facts should be the major focus of content on

each slide.

o The content of your presentation must be taken from professional sources outside of the textbook – in other words, you may use the course textbook as point of reference or for ideas but the

majority of the presentation’s content must come from at least three additional resources for

undergraduates and five additional resources for graduate students.

o Acceptable resources include: professional peer-reviewed journals; academic resource books or other textbooks; .edu and .gov websites; carefully reviewed .org websites that are affiliated with

professional organizations; and other academic resources or textbooks. In some instances, .com or

.net sites are acceptable to include – use your best judgment. Examples of unacceptable sources

include: some .com or .net websites; Wikipedia; non-peer reviewed publications (i.e., popular

magazines or websites); and other non-academic or questionable sources. Ask the professor

about the credibility of a source if you are unsure.

o Professional citations (use APA format) must be included on individual slides and a complete reference list (use APA format) must be included on the final slide(s) of the presentation.

o Do not submit full or partial presentations from other courses or accessed from other people/sources – this is a violation of the EIU Student Conduct Code and will result in the grade

of F on the assignment or in the course, depending on the individual infraction. This has been a

problem in the past and the professor carefully checks each Power Point with this in mind. Thank

you in advance for taking this seriously.

o Submit the Power Point presentation to the appropriate dropbox by the due date/time. Name the file with your last name and “FinalProject” (example: MurphyFinalProject)

o Refer to the Assessment of Presentations rubric for criteria used to evaluate the presentation as well as the D2L grading rubric attached to the Final Project dropbox.
