Cognitive Topic

knowledge organization; helping users organize their knowledge

What is "knowledge organization"? What does an engineer need to know about human knowledge and how it is organized?

What are some examples of "more organized" and "less organized" knowledge? How does organized knowledge help engineers or designers be more successful?

As a topic that might be easier, you should look into "schemas" and how experts use schemas to perform better.

To create these lessons, you will strive to develop a lesson that aligns with how people learn—cognitive. You will also seek to engage an entrepreneurial mindset in your instructional design. Multimedia lessons should aim to engage the audience’s curiosity about the topic, make connections between the topic and their own work, and realize how the topic can create value.

Project: Storyboard

You will submit a set of slides that have been carefully revised. The lesson to be created is a multimedia lesson—it will include both verbal narration and visual information and instruction. You will present a draft of the visual component of their lesson (that will accompany the script).

You may submit the materials as a Powerpoint presentation, hand-drawn, or other format. However, the materials must be clear and of high quality.

What improvements are needed regarding the content of the storyboard?

·  were all ideas defined or explained clearly and understandably?

·  were any background concepts, definitions, or explanations missing?

·  did the visuals include interesting, relevant, and engaging examples?

·  did the visuals help to inspire curiosity, make connections, or create value?

2. What improvements are needed regarding the design of the storyboard?

·  were the materials well organized (i.e., good use of space; good flow)?

·  were the materials clearly written with careful proofreading (zero typos)?

·  were the materials professional, mature, and appropriate to the audience?

Suggestions for your revised storyboard:

·  in addition to the planned content and wording, you may want to include “timing notes” or “animation notes” related to the dynamic aspects. How do you expect the visuals to progress and flow over time?

·  consider when and how the “verbal” and “visual” aspects will overlap. How will everything be timed for a smooth experience for the viewer/listener?
