No replies. Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses. Refer to the Discussion Forum Grading Rubric under the Settings icon above for guidance on how your discussion will be evaluated. Ecological Footprint and Comparison [WLOs: 2] [CLOs: 3, 6] Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 9 of the Contemporary Environmental Issues text. Also, view these two short videos on reducing waste: Disposability Consciousness (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and Two Adults, Two Kids, Zero Waste | Bea Johnson | TEDxFoggyBottom (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. In this week’s discussion, you will recalculate your ecological footprints from Week 1, and determine whether or not your actions taken over the past five weeks have made a difference in the size of your footprints. You will also have the opportunity to discuss additional actions one might take to live more sustainably. In particular, you are encouraged to focus on techniques for reducing the amount of waste that we generate in our everyday lives. Complete the following: First, redo your three footprint calculations from Week 1: your ecological footprint (What Is Your Ecological Footprint? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.); your household carbon emissions footprint (Carbon Footprint Calculator (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.), and your daily water footprint (Water Footprint Calculator (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.). Compare your new answers from the ones you obtained back in Week 1. How did the footprints change, if at all? Do you suspect that any changes are the result of the actions you took? Why or why not? In a well-crafted discussion post of at least 200 words, report on the results of all five weeks of the Ecological Footprint Reduction Project. Did you meet with success? If so, what activity or activities do you think made the biggest difference? What additional actions would you consider taking to reduce your footprints in the future, particularly in terms of lessening the amount of materials you consume and wastes you produce? What did you learn from this experience? Do you think that individual efforts to live more sustainably matter? Why or why not? You will not be able to view others’ posts until you have made your own. Note: If you encounter any difficulty accessing one or more of the three footprint calculators, you may need to try a different web browser. For instance, if you are using Google Chrome, you may need to use another option (Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc.). PLEASE SEE THE LOOK THE INFORMATION BELOW TO DO these PARTICULAR DISCUSSIONS: MY Ecologia FootPrint Below to use and answer those Questions Please: The ecological footprint of an average city dweller balancing public and private transport is 4.6, carbon footprint of 6.8 with 51% of the ecological footprint being carbon emission, with no little air flights and family size of around five people living in an average of 3-housing unit block with running water need 2.7 earths if everyone on the planet lived like them. The use of renewable energy is the most significant way of reducing the ecological footprint of an average city dweller in a bid to address climate change. This can be achieved through taking transit, bicycle or walking instead of driving solo at least once a month or a weak in order for the number of earth required to accommodate everyone to stand at one (Carrington, 2018). On food, there is the need to remain on a diet plan and cut down on food wastage as a means of leveraging sustainability (Bensel & Turk, 2014). Smart shopping is, therefore, the way forward to reducing food wastage, trying a new vegetarian recipe at least once a month or a week. The population size also needs to be addressed to necessarily create a sustainable future for all the people within the ecological budget of the planet. The family size should be chosen to affect the long-term footprint. There is, therefore, the need to support women's rights and access to family planning in this regard. Other ways include skipping bottled water, using coffee tumblers, using reusable bags for shopping, saving energy by lowering thermostat, reducing water usage during flushing toilets by putting a plastic bag in the toilet tank, cutting the use of paper towels, washing clothes in cold water to save energy and taking vacation close to home to reduce flights among many other recommended ways of living sustainably.
