Affordable Care Act resulted in more gains in the health insurance coverage through the extension of Medicaid coverage to low-income persons and provision of marketplace subsidies for people below400% of poverty. The number of uninsured people in the United States decreased from 44 million in the year 2013 to 28 million in 2016. The coverage was majorly extended to all adults with incomes and below 138% poverty levels.
Additionally projected changes are now happening in emergency health care rooms.47% of a health care emergency rooms are reporting increased number since the emergence of ACA. The increase in numbers has created challenges such as inadequate staff especially in the emergency departments, increased demand for ACA is expected to worsen the situation as it is estimated that9.3% of the population remain uninsured (Kaiser Family Foundation, 2017)
