M1D1: Crime Control Model Versus Due Process Model
Some criminologists believe that we should focus more on crime control, while others emphasize the importance of preserving and maintaining robust due process rights of individuals. It may not be possible to balance these perspectives, but it is clear that each perspective is affected by societal context and public perception of crime and the effectiveness of our public policies in deterring and controlling crime.

Although it may seem like a thing of the past when crime dominated the news headlines with riots, cities burning, drug wars, and escalating homicide rates, in recent times some have felt that those problems are over; however, according to the “Third Way Report,” four new and growing sociological trends are now emerging at an alarming rate, threatening the safety and welfare of all Americans.
