2A. ENV 220 Current Event Group Project: Part A: Group Proposal

Due: 10/11

Environmental science looks at human relationships with other organisms living here on Earth. The environment is constantly changing which require constant monitoring and evaluations. If you look at the news, listen to the radio, watch TV or search online for contents related to the environment, new studies and the advancement of technology are being conducted and presented to us (the reader) as current events. You and your partner will find a current event article that you find interesting (this is a primary source) and publish within the year. You will read the article and together, write a proposal that summarizes the research that was conducted in your article.

The article and proposal will be about the latest trends in environmental research/ science. The article must have been published within the year (Fall 2020 to current). All topics have to be in the theme of environmental science such as: evolution, genetics, climate change, sustainable alternatives fuels or products (biofuel), pollution, discovery of new species, discovery in medicines, virus, sustainable designs in fashion, architect or interior design, etc...

This is a first come, first serve and there will not be repeated topics presented. No one can select Coronavirus! The goal of the proposal is to help you organize your thoughts on your research article and it will allow me the opportunity to give you helpful feedback for you to use when making your Powerpoint presentation (Part B).

Requirements:

· Your proposal should be typed, MLA format and about 2-5 pages in length with a literature cited section.

· This assignment is due at the beginning of class and you must upload to Moodle, but you can turn it in before the due date. The assignment will be saves as you and your partner name (Ex: SanchezB_SmithR). Both partners must upload the proposal along with a copy of the article.

You should include the sections listed below:

· Research Article info (You are focusing on the paper, not the topic)

State the article/ journal information: title, date of publication, journal/ article publisher name and authors. Published within the year!

· Rationale (Motivation for the selected article)

Describe why you selected the article? Is there a personal connection to the article? What did you find interesting?

· Objectives (background information of the article. This should be the bulk of the proposal)

What is the hypothesis or the goal of the article?

Summarizes and describe the research article: What did they do? Where did this research take place? How did they do this? Why did they do this? Is this a new discovery, If not, when was this study last conducted? What is the biology behind it, for example if you selected a new cancer therapy you also have to describe what cancer is? You may need additional resources but focus on your main research article. Is there a cost associated with this? Describe the introduction, methods, findings and conclusion.

· Impact ( Local or Global, both)

How is it important to the environmental community and science? Relate it back to class. Why does this matter.

· References Cited

Where did you get this information from, when it was published and it should be a primary literature source. You may have/need other sources but focus on the article!

· Copy of article

I need a copy of your article, attached to your proposal (Just the first two main pages). This should only be one file. You must turn this in to get full credit. You will save the document as you name and please sure it is in PDF or Word document format.
