Hello class,

How is behavioral control impacted by motivational approaches such as the ones in the videos?

Behavioral control is a major contribution to the productivity and well being of your associates and or employees. In the video it goes in to telling the listen that paying the person what they are worth is a big part of appreciation towards their job, and wanting to go the extra mile to impress someone or even just to make someone's job easier. By showing someone that they are worth their job it will give them the ability to want to direct themselves and others. If the employee is underappreciated then they will most likely not do the job correctly or just there to work their hours just to receive a paycheck. Showing someone that you see how good they are doing, and teaching them new things about their job will most likely self motivate them in wanting to do more, so by showing positive encouragement, and adding a good behavior to their job environment will yield higher productivity and less turn around.

What motivational approaches are you aware of that have been either very effective or ineffective?

The easiest way the you can motivate someone is by showing them how to do something, watch them overtime, and give them compliments on their work to show them that you do care that they are there, and that you do see that they are doing a good job. Others things can be something like giving them gifts, letting the person leave early on certain days for appreciation, or something as easy as having a group meeting to let everyone know how effective they are being. Some ineffective ways of doing so is being quiet towards the employee, not noticing their work, and expecting the person to do something that they were not told to do.

Chandler good post. I agree with you that behavioral control is a major contribution to the productivity and well being of your associates and or employees. As you stated, in the video it goes in to telling the listen that paying the person what they are worth is a big part of appreciation towards their job, and wanting to go the extra mile to impress someone or even just to make someone's job easier. I have been in the working field for quite some time, I can truly say, paying people what they are worth will motivate individuals. If you don't show someone they are worth keeping, and you are paying them a low rate, they will go elsewhere. This even comes into play in the education field as well, if a student doesn't feel they don't have a professor that looks as them as someone of value and just a number they will withdraw and go to another college where they feel more appreciative.

Employees value pay, yes, but there is also the matter of feeling valued. Showing an employee how much you appreciate them, how much you appreciate what they do and how much appreciate the work they do can and will work wonders for employee moral. Pay may get an employee and may help to keep an employee, but feeing appreciated is one of the most important things you can do to keep employees and keep them happy. That can be little things like "thank you" and "you are doing great" but being seen among the employees, working and helping is also a great way to ensure they know management will help.

Behavioral control can be impacted by motivational approaches; however, some people are filling a position, collecting a paycheck, waiting for tomorrow, or blinded by something. To be more specific, some people regardless of the reward suggested, are not really trying at the duty which they are paid to complete.

To answer the question, many reward-based activities can easily be attained once either A: the reward is offered or B: the suggestion to improve is suggested. As an example, if a blood donation team as a group, reaches goals for the blood bank which "makes a profit" for the blood bank; why would any team member try harder? They would not, because safety is a priority. Safety is safety's bonus. However, if a stockbroker has a quota of 5 new clients, securing 50 new clients is a huge incentive for that occupation.

Without reading the case studies, the 5 w's and h, are difficult to completely understand. And as for the technical definitions stated in the first video, I would certainly have to conduct some research to be sure I understand the purpose of the case study.

Approaches which have been effective or ineffective? Effective: a realistic goal of well produced product which exceeds a previous goal. Ineffefctive: allowing a group to manage themselves without guidelines to reach a realistic goal.

Behavioral control can refer to the facts that show if there is direct control when it comes to evaluating how a worker does their job. There is perceived behavioral control refers to people's perceptions of their ability to perform a given behavior. Behavioral controls is also considered the exercise of influencing authority amongst human behavior.
