DENSITY of Metals

Experiment 2

Physics Lab - 101

Objectives

Determine DENSITY of 2 different Metals

Copper

Aluminum

Calculate the density for different shapes

Verify:

Density is CONSTANT for SAME METAL regardless of shape.

Density is DIFFERENT for different Metals even for same size & shape

Aluminium and Copper have different density

Equipments Needed:

Copper

Aluminum

BEAM Balance

For measuring MASS

Water cylinder

D =

MASS measured using Triple Beam Balance.

Volume measured using Water cylinder

Volume also calculated applying formulas for all shapes

Pan Empty

3 Weights

Fix all 3 weights at ZERO

Balance pointer at Zero

Object to be measured is kept on Pan

3 Weights are adjusted to get the correct Mass

Always start adjusting with 100 g weight

Second with 10 grams

Last with 1g weight till the pointer is aligned with zero

Sum of all 3 scales gives total in grams

Using Triple Beam Balance
