What's your relationship to change and uncertainty? "All that you touch you change. All that you change changes you." Octavia Butler . "Rather than being disheartened by the uncertainty of life, what if we accepted it and relaxed into it? What if we said, 'Yes, this is the way it is; this is what it means to be human,' and decided to sit down and enjoy the ride?" -Pema Chodron Overview This paper contributes a sense of context for your Organizational Change Plan. I'm connecting complexity with adaptive leadership, and consequently, I may be conflating both with this line of inquiry: Our approach to leading complex organizations can be reflected in describing our relationship to change and uncertainty. I could be wrong in thinking that the degree to which we are equanimous with the complexity of organizations can be understood from our desire for organizations to be a certain way, our aversion to any policies and practices, and/or our indifference to organizational dynamics beyond purview. For now, you will not be expected to "cite appropriately" nor provide references. unless, of course, you are directly quoting. I am requesting, however, that you tap into your own experience to reflect upon the impact any of the exercises or readings have had on you thus far. These exercises were designed to "position" you in such a way that highlights your accordance, discordance, and disregard for change and uncertainty.
