Request for Proposals: Students Creating Manuals The demand for manuals to clarify processes and procedures is greater than the people working as technical writers can meet. Because of this imbalance, product users, people seeking reliable instruction online, and others might suffer inconvenience, accident, or even injury in carrying out tasks.

The mission of Students Creating Manuals (SCreaM) is to develop manuals that help everyday people complete complex or poorly- explained processes with confidence.

Because SCreaM does not actually exist and has no paid staff, the organization is soliciting proposals for manual projects that will be developed by undergraduates with technical writing experience.

A successful proposal will:  Define a process that needs better explanation and instruction.  Explain the impact of the process on a specific group of people.  Describe the research that the student would complete to

understand the process and design a manual explaining it.  Explain what, if any, documentation of the process exists and how

it isn’t sufficient.  Define the key stakeholders (who would benefit from the manual

and who would be impacted by the manual’s creation).  Explain where the manual would be placed or how it would be

distributed to reach its intended audience.  Be around 500 words long.

Requirements  Address the proposal to Dr. Strandjord and 104T classmates.

 Format the proposal professionally and simply. Use a blank line to separate paragraphs and do not indent paragraphs.

 Use headings and subheadings to separate sections and guide your readers through the document.

 Use numbered or bulleted lists when appropriate.  Use a citation system you are familiar with to cite any sources

you consulted to craft the proposal.
