Social media can affect your career now and in the future because anything that you post can stick with you where ever you go. It can either be in a positive way or in a negative way. Something that may be on your social media can affect weather you get a job or not. In addition, it could get you fired if you posted something controversial or political. It's very important to be smart about what you post as it reflects who you are.
Some negative steps are that social media can cause depression and anxiety. It can cause stress on people to where they can lose sleep at night. Which can affect their performance in school or their job.

Social media usage can cause positive and negative effects for one's career path now and in the future. Social media has the beneficial impact of social networking, and this in turn causes one to be more available to opportunities presented within said network. However, social media is also a medium in which people share information about one's self, others, and views. These posts can affect career opportunities if the user posts things that are controversial or may not align with corporate cultures such as racism, sexism, political views, and anything else likely to be found disturbing. Even if it is not, the employer may just not like how you present yourself to the public through social media use.
In order to avoid the negative effects of social media have on career opportunities, I would recommend not posting anything controversial first off because many users are able to see the information you present. If you avoid this recommendation, people are able to change privacy settings to allow only certain individuals to view user posts. With privacy, employers will not have access to your posts. Lastly, I would try to remain professional online because even though we are in the era of tech innovation with the ability to mass communicate, arguing on Facebook posts does not win real-life issues and furthers communication issues.
