Requirement on the first work: (it is based on the previous work, and the specific comment and work I have put on the next pages. If you have any other problems, please tell me)

With your final paper submission you are expected to submit a complete works cited list in MLA format and annotations for the primary editions used to form the basis of comparison. DO NOT SUBMIT IT SEPARATELY FROM YOUR EDITIONS COMPARISON. IT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF YOUR PAPER. Because you will have already submitted the initial annotated bibliography, the annotations should incorporate any feedback, sggestions or alterations indicated in my feedback on that ungraded submission. There is no maximum or minimum word count for the annotations but analysis of the editions should be reserved for your essay. The annotations in the bibliography should be a brief but thorough account of the main bibliographic features of the editions compared which would typically address editorial, illustration or printing information not normally included in the MLA works cited format.

Point of clarification: you do not need to submit annotations on secondary sources, but you must submit a complete works cited.

For example, this would be considered a sufficiently complete citation:

Zola, Emile. The Rush for the Spoil: a realistic novel. London: Vizetelly & Co., 1887. [call number PQ2499.C9 E5 1887 ZOLA SMRS]

This edition is listed as a translation "without abridgement" from the 34th French edition and is illustrated with twelve engravings, which are uncredited. It is listed as a "new edition" without reference to the printing, and the copy in the Kelly library has become separated from its binding.

The previous homework requirement

The annotated bibliography is for your final editions comparison assignment.

The annotated bibliography is meant to be very short and is not graded until it is submitted with the final paper. It is intended to make sure you have identified two print editions of a work for comparison.

Short annotation means very short. You need only identify two editions of a work, give a citation for those editions and then identify in a couple sentences some key features that make the two editions relevant for comparison. For example; has the work been anthologized; are there different editors; is one edition illustrated; is there a critical apparatus that accompanies the work; were they printed in different times, languages, countries or formats that might make for an interesting point of comparison?

For example, this would be considered a sufficiently complete citation:

Zola, Emile. The Rush for the Spoil: a realistic novel. London: Vizetelly & Co., 1887. [call number PQ2499.C9 E5 1887 ZOLA SMRS]

This edition is listed as a translation "without abridgement" from the 34th French edition and is illustrated with twelve engravings, which are uncredited. It is listed as a "new edition" without reference to the printing, and the copy in the Kelly library has become separated from its binding.

The works might include a copy of a text in a magazine or an anthology (such as a poem, essay, or a short story). A number of different editions of works by Mary Shelley, Marshall McLuhan, Morley Callaghan, Henri Nouwen, Sheila Watson, Flannery O'Connor, GK Chesterton and Emile Zola can be found in the special collection of the John M. Kelly library. In some cases you could compare editions with manuscripts or early drafts of works. To review these works you can schedule an appointment with the instructor or on your own by emailing the special collections email:

The previous homework I hand in

Pratt, T. K., &Beehler, B. M. (1985). Birds of New Guinea (1st edition). Princeton University Press.

Birds of New Guinea first edition was printed at a different time compared to the second edition. More specifically, the second edition was published twenty years after the first edition. The first edition is not clearly illustrated, unlike the second edition, that is well elaborated. Unlike the second edition, there are no critical apparatus that accompany the first edition.

Pratt, T. K., &Beehler, B. M. (2014). Birds of New Guinea (2nd edition). PrincetonUniversity Press.

Unlike the first edition, the second edition has included more content of the species accounts, meaning it has included more biological details. However, both editions have used the same editors. Unlike the first edition, the second edition of Birds of New Guinea has editors, while the first edition does not have editors. The artwork has completely changed in the second edition.

Okay to proceed. You will still need to find several secondary sources. Let me know if you are having difficulty finding secondary sources in the catalogue. Reread the Hume article and aim to say as much as you can about the genesis, production, dissemination and reception of the text. If you are no longer able to use your originally intended texts, please consider adapting the assignment to a single text. See the assignment details in the assignments module on quercus. You should let me know by email that you are adapting the assignment.
