Getting Started

This week’s discussion forum begins with viewing two videos and reading two articles, one of which is called “Lean Lessons from ‘The Wizard of Oz’” on the subject of organizational wisdom. The author employs observations from the classic film to draw parallels to the use of wisdom in navigating the challenges that leaders and their organizations face in these uncertain times.

Upon successful completion of this discussion, you will be able to:

· Explore how practical wisdom can be used to address significant organizational and societal issues.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. View the YouTube video: What is Wisdom?

3. View the first 11 minutes and 30 seconds of the YouTube video by Dr. Robert Sternberg:

5. Review the article:  Lean Lessons from ‘The Wizard of Oz’(new tab) .

6. In your initial discussion post (250–300 words), respond to the following:

a. Describe a time when you demonstrated wisdom in a past or current organization in which you were involved (employer, nonprofit volunteer, etc.)

b. Based on principles that you reviewed in the assigned reading and viewing (and without sharing more information than you are comfortable disclosing), discuss how and why you believe you used wisdom effectively. Please feel free to incorporate your cultural perspective into the reflection.

c. If you had it to do over again, would you handle the situation any differently? Why or why not?
