1. What percentage of your working day is involved in communication?

I work as an Uber driver which means my job involves picking up different people and dropping them off at different locations. Therefore, I will say that 95% of my working day is involved with communication. I start with saying high with my customers when they get into my car and from there we start talking. I answer questions about the city Chicago for those who are visiting the city for the first time and have conversations from politics to a lot of other topics with those who are regular visitors or who reside in Chicago. I also do communicate the Uber customer care when there is a problem and when I do not have customers in my car, I talk to, my friends.

2 . What percentage of time do you spend communicating in the following contexts: intrapersonal, dyadic, small group, and public?

I do believe I spend about 60% dyadic, 15% small group, 5% public, and 20% interpersonal. I spend most of my time at dyadic communication because most of my conversations are with my customers. Then I pend the second most time on intrapersonal communication when I am trying to figure out which way to drive and when it takes a while before I get a customer and is frustrated and agitated. I do most of my small group communication with my friends and co-drivers when I have someone in my car. I do very little of public communication. It only happens most times on school days when I am in class.

3. What percentage of your communication is devoted to satisfying each of the following types of needs: physical, identity, social, and practical?

I would say 80% of my communication is focused on practical and social needs because most of communication is with my customers. I would give the rest of 20% percent for identity and physical needs. I will not be satisfied unless I perform practical and social needs because they help me to be effective at my job and also on my other needs

4. Based on your analysis, describe at least 5 ways you would like to communicate more effectively. For each item on your list, describe the following :

The first important effective way is engaging in active listening. Sometimes I customers who just want to talk, therefore, being a better listener makes my communication with them better. Staying calm while communicating with people is another way of effective communication. There so many reasons why communication could get that heated up. But it is very important to stay calm, it helps you communicate better. One other important to focus on is body language. This includes people’s facial expressions, body movement, hand gestures and eye contact. These things sometimes give more information about a person, and what they are trying to say to you. Being assertive is another way of effective communication. This means stating your ideas clearly and positively while acknowledging and respecting other people's rights and beliefs. My final way of having a more effective communication will be being culturally sensitive. This means putting other people’s values and culture into consideration.
