Trends impacting the inpatient and outpatient setting

The inpatient setting is the system where a patient is admitted in a hospital. The hospital offers accommodation to the patient in the process of treating him or her. The outpatient setting on the other hand is the system where one is not admitted into the hospital .Instead he or she is treated and released to go home to continue with the medication there.in case the treatment process is not complete, the patient is supposed to visit the hospital again at a scheduled time. Recently, there have been some upcoming issues which are having a very great impact on these settings.

The most important trend so far that is affecting the setting is the methods of payment and delivering care. The most recent trend in care delivery is the introduction of medical centers which are patient centered. Patients are given many options consisting of the various ways in which they can be treated. A patient for instance, decides the type of room they want, they type of foods they prefer and the best way they would like to be entertained while receiving treatment.

Another trend in the inpatient and outpatient setting is the insurance cover. With the increasing cost of basic items, insurance coverage is tending to decrease. The decrease in insurance cover will automatically cause people to stop seeking medical assistance for petty illnesses. People will also stop seeking drug refills. Due to this limited resources, the inpatient volume will tend to increase. This is because people will only visit the hospital if their condition is critical.

Another thing impacting the setting is the technological advancements. With the technology advancing at a very high rate, research is made very easy. People no longer need to queue at a hospital if they can Google how to administer a certain medication. This will also cause the inpatient volume to increase as people will go to the hospitals when their situation has become critical. The size of the outpatient will on the other hand decrease.
