FOR LESSON 7 QUANTITATIVE DATA

1.  Collect a quantitative data set and tell me how you obtained the data. (10 points)

2.  Sort the data in ascending order. (5 points)

3.  Compute the range.  (5 points)

4.  Estimate the SD using the range rule of thumb.  (5 points)

5.  Use Sturgis's formula to find the ideal number of classes.  (5 points)

6.  Find an appropriate class width.  (5 points)

7.  Decide on a lower limit and compute all the lower limits.  (5 points)

8.  Find all the upper limits.  (5 points)

9.  Find the frequencies for the classes.  (5 points)

10. Construct a frequency histogram and give the shape of the data.  (5 points)

11. Compute the relative frequencies. (5 points)

12. Compute the percent frequencies. (5 points)

13. Find the summary statistics. (5 points)

    FOR LESSON 8 ESTIMATING MEANS

    Use the quantitative data set you collected for Project #5 to do the following.

    1.  Find the mean and SE.  (5 points)

    2.  Find the margin of error.  (5 points)

    3.  Compute the 95% confidence interval for the population mean.  (10 points)

    4.  Interpret you confidence interval.  (10 points)

      Perform a hypothesis test for the data you collected for P#5.

      Be sure to show the following:

      1.  State the claim, Null Hypothesis, and Alternative Hypothesis.  (8 points)

      2.  Choose a significance level such as .025. (2 points)

      3.  Give your sample statistic. (5 points)

      4.  Compute the standard error.  (5 points)

      5.  Compute the p-value and formulate an initial conclusion (either reject or support H0).  (10 points)

      6.  Be sure to write the final conclusion as an interpretive sentence that states whether the claim was supported or not.  (10
