D. Presenting Data in the News You will sign up for a presentation day at the beginning of the second week of class. There will be at most 2 student presentations per class lasting from 5-7 minutes. For this assignment you will find an interesting depiction of data in the news or a current publication, provide a written summary, and give a presentation to the class. The written analysis will include a summary of the news article, an assessment of the information as unbiased or based, and an explanation why you feel this way. In class you will show the graphical presentation of the data and explain it. The more biased or messy the data is the better. We are trying to develop critical thinking skills, so the class will benefit significantly from this discussion. Be prepared to present at least 2 probing questions to the class about the article presented. Just asking, “What do you think?” is not sufficient.
