Choose one of the following questions to answer.  Your answer should be at least 200 words in length and your sources should be cited.  You must use your textbook as a source.  In addition to your answer, you must respond to at least 2 others.  Each response should be at least 100 words in length.  One of your responses must be to a question other than the one you have chosen.

1.  “Nationalism in Africa, Asia, and Latin America was merely the response to either de facto or de jure Western imperialism.”  Do you agree or disagree?  Discuss.
2.  Do you think Gandhi was a political genius or simply fortunate? Explain.
3.  Read “Islam in the Modern World:  Two Views” on pages 628-629 in your textbook.  Could it be said that Ataturk and Iqbal are arguing for the same thing?  Explain.
4.  Which of the countries discussed in this chapter responded most effectively to the changes in their societies after World War I?  Discuss.
