Social Media can be a wonderful tool. It allows us to keep in touch with family and friends, helps to expand our world view, and allows us to connect with like-minded individuals. There are clear benefits to the social media experience, however, with that being said improper use of social networking sites can be a detriment to an individual’s psyche. As stated in the assigned videos, people, especially the youth of America, look to social media for validation. Every “like” an individual receives on a post validates to them that they are pretty enough, cool enough, or just good enough. I personally believe that this way of thinking can lead to negative side effects for people who are constantly looking for this type of validation. As we build our social media image we naturally try to create the best image of ourselves and as we are doing this we often highlight our triumphs and sweep our troubles under the rug. To the outsiders looking in, this causes a sense of inadequacy and to the individual building up their social media presence this creates added pressure in “keeping up appearances”. Either way you spin it this can lead to negative side effects for an individual where they never quite feel satisfied. They are constantly grasping for happiness and constantly falling short. However, my personal experiences and opinions in regards to social media is not sufficient for a complete understanding of the overall impact social media plays on an individual’s life. Obviously, not every person uses social media in the same way because of this it would be difficult to gage the impact social media has on each individual life. One term from the reading that seems to adequately explain this is individual differences, which indicates that each individual has variations in both physical and psychological dimensions. These differences in psychological dimensions causes the impact of social media to be drastically different in regards to each individual. Therefore, each individual will need to access how much social media they can participate in while still being able to maintain a healthy psychological well-being.

Having a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media is taking control of our lives. As humans being accepted is probably the best thing that can happend to us psychological wise. It is not good enough for us to be accepted in person but we need to be accepted by strangers on social media. Whenever we feel alone or denied by our society, we tend to go on social media and post a picture of ourselves and let the world decide if we are good enough to be here or being denied by the world and become depressed by the denial the world gave us. As human we need to stop depending on social media for the approval and start accepting the fact that we will get approved by society sometime of our lives. I will be honest I thought being accepted by the society wasn't good enough so I tend to go to social media and let them decide. Till this day I have regretted that choice to let social media control my life, it took me a while to stop worrying about what others think of me and start caring about what I think of myself. Its the need of being accepted that drives us to become better and to look better, that the social media has on us.

Economic Background vs. Academic Success Economic Background vs. Academic Success
Collapse
I think it would be interesting to study the correlation between a persons economic background and their ability to recieve good grades in school. It has been suggested that children who come from families that own their own home are more successful in school so if that holds true it could also be expected that children who come from families with higher incomes (possessing the ability to buy their own home) would also perform better academically.
I think in order to research this the best way would be through case studies. Finding a group of participants that came from all ranges of economic backgrounds and then following their academic success or grades throughout a year of schooling. By first collecting information on the financial stabilities of their families we could make an informed assumption on which students we believe will perform better and then compare that with the results showing which students actually did perform well.
I think the only concerns would be that you would need to find a rather large group of students as there will always be other factors that influence a students ability to perform well. Perhaps problems that exist at home outside of finances, or stress from other personal relationships, even the inability to find adequate study time if they are involved in multiple extra curricular activities.  Essentially their could be a common casual variable that will play a key role in a students academic success that would allow for a direct relationship between economic stability and academic performance to be unrelated.

Research question: Does color coding information help with memorization?
Research methodology: I wish to test if color coding information help with memorization. I believe that if information is color coded, it will help with memorization. Also, I could look at trends between men and women with color coding versus not color coding.
Research design: I will randomly choose several men and women and assign them into two groups. Each group will be given a list of things to memorize. One group will be asked to color code their information and the other group will be asked to not. Color coding or not color coding will be the independent variable. After a given amount of time, each group will take a quiz involving the list of things to memorize. The dependent variable will be the scores of the quiz from each individual. I will then look for patterns between the scores earned by each group to determine if my hypothesis is correct.
Concerns: It is important that each group is chosen randomly. I also want to put an equal amount of men and women in each group. That way the data will not favor a specific group because of my mistake. Both groups MUST be given the same information to memorize and given the same time amount to do it in. The tests for each group will also be the same. It is important to keep all variables the same besides the color coding/not color coding of information.

I had a really had time in selecting which part of my brain I would be okay with being damaged. While reading the notes and watching the videos there were some functions that I would be semi-okay with losing and others that I couldn't live with out.
But, the part of the brain that I would choose to be damaged is the: Frontal lobe
While I think a loss to any of the brain functions would be a terrible thing, I chose the frontal lobe because I think it has the least amount of severe damaging effects on the brain. The other main reason why I chose the frontal lobe was because there was no loss in important motor functions.
Damage to the frontal lobe would result in problems with...
1.    Sequencing
2.    Decison making
3.    Attention
4.    Personality
5.    Problem solving
6.    Verbal expression
7.    Spontaneity
8.    Emotions
9.    Movement initiation
I think the symptoms that would be most visible to the people around me would be personality, verbal expression, and movement initiation. While the others are still important, I know even now I have trouble with decision making and paying attention.

Traumatic brain injuries are a very serious injury.  Obviously I wouldn’t want to have any area of my brain affected, but if I had to choose one, I would choose the temporal lobe.  Damage to the temporal lobe could cause deficits in spoken language, sexuality, identification, categorizations, and facial recognition.  However, no TBI is the same, so there could be other symptoms due to damage of the temporal lobe as well.  It would be very frustrating to have weaknesses in these areas, but I think that speech therapy could help my spoken language, and other therapy could help me develop the other areas that I struggle with.  Some of the symptoms that might be visible to my friends and family may be aggression changes.  For example, I could lash out with aggression towards my family more than I had done before the accident.  Sadly, I may not be able to recognize family, due to the deficits I might have in facial recognition.  Spoken language disorders would be very tough to handle.  It would take therapy and patience to develop these skills again, so I can express my ideas and use my language to communicate with those around me. Furthermore, with temporal lobe damage, I may experience emotional disturbance, and altered sexual behaviors. One of the hardest deficits to grasp for my family and friends may be changes in my personality, as I may lose my sense of humor or become obsessive.
I choose this area because it is responsible for the primary organization of sensory input. Unfortunately, sensory input is not something that can easily be fixed.  The injury to the temporal lobe causes inabilities that don’t seem as life altering as damages to other brain areas.
